Enterprise at Mere Valley School

Make, grow, serve and contribute

Enterprise gives learning a practical purpose. Learners will use communication, English, mathematics, digital skills and teamwork to make products, provide a service and contribute to their community.

Catering and hospitality

Food preparation and café routines offer opportunities to follow recipes, measure ingredients, plan menus and serve refreshments. Learners practise hygiene, organisation and customer communication with suitable support.

Retail

Displaying products, checking stock, creating labels, understanding prices and serving customers build everyday number skills, confidence and responsibility.

Creative crafts

Design and making bring an idea to life: choose materials, make and check a product, then prepare it for display or sale. Art, textiles, natural materials and design projects encourage expression and help learners work through a sequence.

Learning that connects

One project might involve growing herbs, making a product, designing its label, calculating a price and explaining the result. Tasks and support are adapted to individual interests, readiness and EHCP outcomes.

Outdoor learning and care for living things

Explore, nurture and take responsibility

Outdoor learning connects practical skills with wellbeing, understanding the environment and caring for living things.

Horticulture

Sowing, planting, watering, weeding and harvesting build observation, patience and responsibility. Measuring growth and recording changes give English, maths and science a practical purpose.

Animal care

Learning about welfare, feeding, water and daily care routines helps learners develop responsibility. Activities are supervised and matched to individual needs, with observation and non-contact options available. Animal care is kept separate from food activities.

Conservation

Wildlife recording, composting, pollinator planting and habitat projects help learners understand how everyday actions affect the environment and contribute to shared spaces.

Forest School

Supported exploration, sensory experiences, natural crafts and teamwork develop communication, practical problem solving and confidence outdoors.

Taking part safely

Activities are adapted to communication, sensory and physical needs, with suitable staffing, equipment, hygiene and risk assessment. The offer will develop as facilities and staffing are established.
