Admissions

A careful, individual approach to every enquiry

We welcome enquiries from families and local authorities. Mere Valley School is preparing for registration; opening and placements depend on registration and an assessment of each learner’s needs.

Start a conversation

Email info@merevalley.com with your contact details and a brief outline of your enquiry.

Please request a secure route before sending EHCPs, medical reports or other sensitive records.

From referral to progress

The learner journey brings together referral, assessment, induction, an individual learning plan and ongoing review.

Five stages of the planned learner journey: referral, baseline, induction, learning plan and review.

Admissions, step by step

Understanding the learner and planning the right support

1. Initial enquiry

Discuss the learner’s broad needs, our provision and the next steps. An enquiry is not an offer of a place.

2. Information review

Share the EHCP and relevant education, care and health information through an agreed secure route.

3. Individual suitability

We consider communication, sensory needs, learning, wellbeing and safety, alongside the environment, staffing and specialist support required. A diagnosis alone does not determine suitability; reasonable adjustments and the learner’s views are part of the assessment.

4. Supported visit and assessment

Arrange an appropriate opportunity for the learner and family to explore the setting and share their views.

5. Written decision

Receive the outcome and any conditions, including local authority commissioning and funding arrangements where relevant.

6. Transition planning

Agree visits, communication support, routines, transport responsibilities and information sharing.

7. Starting and review

Set individual targets and an early review plan with the family and placing authority.

Support matched to need

Our planning model brings together universal, targeted and specialist support. Each learner’s provision is assessed and agreed individually.

Before a placement begins

Families and commissioners receive the school information, relevant policies and written placement details, including fees, support and start arrangements. Opening and placements remain subject to registration.

Support model: Band C universal, Band B targeted and Band A specialist support.
